Summit Hospice is part of Summit Healthcare Services, located at 1717 W Northern, Phoenix, Arizona 85021. We have been part of the 19NORTH neighborhood for approximately two years. Our goal is to provide our patients with happiness and dignity through life’s transitions.
Summit Hospice is proud to be a We Honor Veterans partner. The National Palliative Care and Hospice Association has partnered with the Veterans Administration on a national level to provide education to hospice staff. The goal is to meet the unique and varied needs of veterans during the last months of their lives. The entire Summit Hospice staff receives this specialized, ongoing training.
We have also been providing virtual trips to homebound and bed-bound patients. These trips are made possible with the use of a drone, a drone pilot, and a live feed! With this technology, patients can virtually revisit old neighborhoods, favorite places of worship, or other places of significance, such as where they were married or where their children were christened. Some patients choose to take their virtual trips to previously unvisited dream locations.
Summit Hospice has recently introduced the use of therapeutic grade essential oils to their patients and residents. Many claim that essential oils can calm, invigorate, promote wellness, sanitize and provide many other benefits. Some caregivers have reported noticing a calming effect on Alzheimer’s patients and those dealing with Sundowner’s Syndrome.
Recently, we have partnered with DreamCatchers, an organization which grants last wishes for hospice patients. One wish has already been granted and another is being planned. A 95-year-old patient wished to tell the stories of her life and have them preserved on a beautiful video. Another patient has chosen to visit the ocean one last time. Her trip will include a visit to an aquarium and a luau with Polynesian dancers. Her plan is still in the works. Ssshhhh! It’s a surprise!!
Summit Hospice is driven to improve the quality of life for our patients at this transitional time in their lives. It can be difficult for everyone involved, but we are committed to doing everything we can to make things as positive as possible. We always strive to go above and beyond our normal routine to serve those entrusted to our care.
We are proud to be part of the 19NORTH community! If you have further questions, or would like to get involved, please call: 602-535-8255.
